When you subscribe to a Creation, it will be available for construction in your Lift (the carjack thing that you can place on the ground in a world which allows you to save and replicate creations.) When you subscribe to a Mod, you will be able to create new worlds that use those mods.
There are two major things that Scrap Mechanic players create: Creations, and Mods. If you are browsing the workshop via the Shift+Tab overlay within the game, you will be automatically signed in. If you are browsing in your web browser, make sure you are signed in to your Steam account there, and you will be able to Subscribe to whatever creations and mods you want. Hey there! The most important thing to note is that every single item on the Scrap Mechanic Steam Workshop has a SUBSCRIBE button on its workshop page.
